F-1 / F-2 Visa

F-1 / F-2 Visa

You may be wondering about the different types of visas and which visa applies to you. We at American English Language School are here to help you understand your visa and any questions you may have during the application process!

An F1 Visa is for students who want to study in the United States. It is important to understand that this visa is a nonimmigrant visa. This visa is for students who will attend an academic program in the United States. Students must apply for this visa as soon as they receive confirmation that the program that they have chosen to pursue their studies has been approved by the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP). After students apply, they must undergo the F1 Visa interview process. Furthermore, students are required to provide the following documentation: Official Residency in a Foreign Country and Intention to Return Home, Admission to an Approved School, Financial Support, and Ties to Your Home Country.

An F2 Visa is for the spouse and children of an individual who has an F1 student visa. Additionally, an F2 Visa is a dependent visa and children are defined as individuals who are unmarried and under 21. In order for these individual to apply for an F2 Visa, the following documents must be submitted: Form I-20A-B, and Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status. Individuals who obtain an F2 visa are allowed to proceed to the United States along with the individual with the F1 visa; however, if the individual with the F1 visa loses their status, the associated F2 visas will also lose their status as well.
