The students at AELS take weekly exams to test their knowledge of the content they have been learning. However, the culture week is the actual test. Culture week allows us to see how the students interact in everyday life situations. Students will learn a significant amount of listening and speaking skills from the week’s guided field trips and local events. Another feature that culture week has to offer is a guest speaker. AELS arranges for a guest speaker to come and present to the whole school. This allows the student to interact with people of other professions. Our guest speakers are always friendly, professional people who have inspiring stories and valuable knowledge to share with students.
Below is a brief schedule of AELS’s culture week.
9:00 - 10:00 Students present their final projects to the class
10:00 - 1:00 Game day - all students bring their favorite game to play during class
9:00 - 1:00 Students will take a field trip
9:30 - 10:30 Guest speaker comes and talks to students
10:30 - 11:00 Students have Q & A / discussion
11:00 - 1:00 Potluck - Students and teachers bring a plate of their favorite dish to share (either homemade or store-bought)
10:00 - 1:00 Students and teachers to see a movie at Brea Plaza
11:00 - 1:00 Students and teachers go to lunch together
AELS loves culture week because it allows us to offer our students personal experiences that will help develop their English and encourage interactions with other people and students.
