Quarterly Schedule

Classes begin on the first Monday of each quarter (January, April, July, and October). Classes are held Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. During the first week, students will go over the syllabus and class expectations, introduce themselves, greet others, write about themselves, and identify educational goals. After the first week, students will have a topic that they will focus on, such as housing, job interviews, or government. On Mondays, teachers will introduce the topic of the week and go over the vocabulary for the unit. For the rest of the week, students will do activities related to the topic of the week. These activities will involve reading, listening, writing, grammar challenges, and a lot of class discussions. The sixth week of class is midterm week. Students will review what they learned in the previous weeks and take their midterm exam on Friday. After midterm week, students will move on to the next unit. The eleventh week is finals week. Before students begin their classes, they take a test to determine their level. During finals week, students will take the same test they took before starting their classes. Students will then be able to see how they have improved from the beginning of the year. When finals are over, the last week of the course is Culture Week. Students will be able to use the English they have learned throughout the quarter in a fun and interactive way.

Daily Schedule

Every day at American English Language School, students will go over reading, writing, grammar, listening, and speaking. Mondays begin with students presenting their activity projects. After everyone has presented their projects, it’s typically the time for a 10-minute break. After the first break, teachers will go over the test the class took on Friday. Next, teachers will go over the vocabulary before the unit to help students better understand the material.

Throughout the rest of the week, students will go over writing, grammar, listening, speaking, and reading activities related to the topic of the week. Teachers will give students a writing topic, and students are to respond to the prompt in a clear and organized essay. Teachers will then go over students’ essays with them and correct their mistakes. Students will also do a grammar challenge from their textbook together with their teachers. The last skill students will work on is listening. Students have a worksheet to fill out while listening to a conversation from a character in the textbook. This activity is for students to practice listening and understanding conversations. Fridays consist of catching up on any unfinished work, reviewing the material for the week, and taking the weekly test.
